In this 7th framework EU CRAFT research project, a sensor-controlled laser welding robot for 3-D seam welding was developed in cooperation with SMEs (small and medium enterprises) and research partners.
My role as PhD researcher was to design the system, integrate commercially available components into a fully operational laser welding robot that is capable of welding small product series. This involved a large amount of software development in C++ tightly integrated with the Staubli robot motion controller. Besides becoming an operational prototype the system became a test bed for other robot motion control research.
